ABC Faith Class

ABC Faith Class (All Belong in Christ): The class will begin with the basics of our life together as Presbyterians and the first four sessions will answer questions tailored for those thinking of church membership: what makes Presbyterians distinct from Methodist, Baptists, Catholics, and other denominations? Why do Presbyterians have “elders” and “deacons”? What is the Session and what does it do? What is the history of the Presbyterian Church and how did it develop over time? What is expected of someone who is a part of the First Presbyterian congregation? What are the basics of Presbyterian faith and theology? What do Presbyterians believe about the bible and the sacraments?

After these initial class sessions, the ABC Faith Class will continue as we explore what’s called egalitarian theology: The Presbyterian Church practices an inclusive theology that sees people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities as equally valued in the eyes of God. We believe that this practice is rooted in the scriptures and is modeled and taught by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. These continuing class sessions will look at the Bible, ancient church history and writings, modern American history, cultural trends, as well as what science informs, as we examine the foundations of current church practices in the PC(USA).
