Committees

SESSION: 

Each session member chair's a different committee reporting back to the session on a monthly basis. The Session administers over the congregation, including pastoral care, budget, worship, Christian education, and the building. There are 15 elders, each serving three year terms, with the pastor as moderator.

DEACONS:

The Deacons is a ministry of sympathy, witness and service, with a special focus on those hospitalized or homebound.  The Board of Deacons is a ministry of sympathy, witness and service, with a special focus on those hospitalized or homebound. There are 15 deacon positions on the Board, each serving three year terms.

 BUDGET & STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE:  

This Committee has six to nine members including two from Session plus the Treasurer as ex officio.  The committee oversees the preparation of the annual budget, ensures that committees operate within the budget, plans the annual stewardship campaign and acts as couriers to take offerings to the bank night depository.  Chair:  Doug Bakker

 

BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE:  

The Building and Grounds Committee oversees the maintenance, repair and use of the church building for worship, education, mission and fellowship.  Chair:  Jeff Tebben

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION/YOUTH MINISTRIES:

The Christian Education/ Youth Ministries Committee (CEYM) is responsible for planning, developing and supervising the Christian Education of the church in accordance with the policies and direction of the session.  The CEYM committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.  Chair: Jon Gubrud

 

MEMORIAL AND ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE

This committee receives memorial and estate gifts and offers guidelines for the use of undesignated gifts.  This committee is responsible for the Education Awards Fund and selects the recipients.  The committee is chaired by a member of the Session and has four or five other members.  Chair:  Connie Spartz

 

MISSION COMMITTEE:

The Mission Committee reviews our giving to the Presbyterian Church (USA), supports mission trips, administers several mission funds, sets monthly church mission causes, provides for local and special mission causes as the arise, and supports the involvement of the whole congregation in mission opportunities.  Co-Chairs:  Brenda Arnold & Bob Dincau

 

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:

This committee is representative of the congregation, Session and Deacon Board, with five members plus two alternates elected by the congregation, one member appointed by the Deacon Board, and two from the Session.  The clerk of session chairs the committee..  The committee serves for one year and is responsible for securing people for election to each board and to fill vacancies and any elected committees such as a Pastor Nominating Committee.

 

NURTURE AND FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE: 

The FPC Nurture and Fellowship Committee (N&F) is responsible for organizing a variety of activities that provide fellowship for the church family throughout the year.  The goal is to encourage interaction at a multi-generational level and stimulate friendships within the church family.  Some activities focus on specific groups (seniors, young families, etc) to encourage fellowship where those groups can share information and be encouraged by socializing with others that have the same interests.  Other responsibilities of the N&F committee include:  arranging greeters for worship services, workgroup coordination during Lent services and other special activities, helping with the annual Hog Roast and Golf Scramble.  Co-Chairs:  Betty Knutson & Sherry Myers.

 

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE: 

The Personnel Committee consists of 7 members.   They are responsible to hire all non-exempt staff, establish job description and clear work responsibilities for each position, recommend to Session personnel policies, implement an affirmative action plan for equal employment opportunity developed in consultation with Presbytery, have schedule for job evaluation on a regular basis with each staff person, and provide a readily available support group for the pastor.

Their goals are to make sure we have good working relationships between all members of staff and have staff job responsibilities precise and understandable.  Chair:  Arlen Sjerven

 

WORSHIP COMMITTEE:

YOUTH ACTIVITY COMMITTEE: 

The Youth Activity Committee (YAC) is a sub-committee of the CEYM committee. The role of the YAC committee is to assist in promoting youth activities throughout the year. YAC meets on a time-needed basis and includes two of the church youth as it's members.
