Sunday School is held for children, preschool through 9th grade, almost every Sunday from September to May from 9AM-9:50AM First Presbyterian Church uses the Workshop rotation Model to teach Sunday School. Classrooms are workshops, designed to look like a setting for that particular theme. Students rotate between workshops, which include theatre, cooking, drama, storytelling, science and art, for a 4 week period at a time. Themes for the 2011-2012 Sunday School year consist of The Early Church, Noah's Ark, Mary and Martha, The Greatest of these is Love, The Last Supper and Pentecost.
The Workshop Rotation Model is based on the education research done by Howard Gardner on multiple intelligences, we all learn in different ways, and how we interpret our world. If we teach in only one of the multiple intelligences, we risk loosing the opportunity to truly bring the stories to life through the different Sunday School sites and specific style of teaching that our adult volunteers bring to the table.
Our mid-week program "Gospel Rock" offers a rainbow of activities which promotes Christ in a loving and nurturing environment.
Gospel Rock is for children, Kindergarten through 8th grade. It is held nearly every Wednesday from September to April from 6PM to 7:30PM.
Children come and participate in a variety of activities designed to help them develop their relationship with God and to develop a strong faith in Him.
Also held on Wednesdays is Confirmation Class for 8th and 9th grade students, followed by Sr. High Youth Groups (Grades 9-12). Both Jr. and Sr. High youth are active in organizing and participating in annual mission trips.
